Gunpowder Falls State Park extends all over the state of Maryland like some strange amoeba. There are many identified access points, and the main office on Jerusalem Road has made available maps of the most prevalent areas. I have scanned my copies of these maps for everyone's convenience.
The access on Bel Air Rd (Rt 1) is my
favorite area of Gunpowder, as I
mentioned before. This is a map of the
restricted side.
For the best run, pick up Sweathouse trail
from the bottom, by the river.
This is the adjacent area of the park, off of
Bel Air. Bikes are allowed, but the trails
are not terribly challenging. There is a
popular rock formation spanning the river,
which is worth the short hike in.
This is a map of the historic Jerusalem Mill area,
and the main office for the State Park. It is worth
visit to see the museum and preserved buildings.
Hereford is another popular area of
Gunpowder which I have not yet visited.
Of course, I would be remiss if I neglected the
incredibly popular NCR, which is also part
of Gunpowder Park. Cyclists, hikers and dog
walkers abound on this trail.
